Courses on genetic linkage mapping and QTL analysis
The next courses are expected to be held on 23-25 and 28-30 March 2011.In March 2011 Kyazma organizes:
- a 3-day course on genetic linkage mapping, with computer practicals using JoinMap;
- a 2½-day course on QTL analysis, with computer practicals using MapQTL.
Where ?
Both courses will be given in Wageningen, at the Hotel de Wageningse Berg. The hotel has teaching room facilities, hotel accommodation and a restaurant. Because the hotel teaching facilities is not equiped with computers, the course participants need to bring their own laptop computers.Registration
Registration is on a first-come first-served basis. Registration is open until full up, so register as soon as possible.Send an e-mail message with name, organisation, and address to <course(at)kyazma.nl>.
You will receive a notification by e-mail if you have been accepted, including payment and hotel reservation details.
Linkage mapping course
On 23, 24 and 25 March 2011 Biometris and Kyazma organize a 3-day course on genetic linkage mapping, with computer practicals using JoinMap. The goal of the course is to teach the participant to produce linkage maps for experimental populations using JoinMap and to recognize and subsequently deal with various problematic situations in linkage mapping.Description
The course will include:- a concise treatment of Mendel's laws, meiosis, and recombination,
- a molecular genetic overview of chromosomes, genes and molecular marker techniques,
- the genetics of recombination,
- the estimation of recombination frequencies,
- the determination of linkage groups,
- an introduction to mapping algorithms,
- linkage analysis in an outbreeder full-sib family,
- computer practicals using JoinMap.
Requirements
The course is targeted to the biologist with a basic knowledge of genetics and statistics. Some experience with MS-Excel is useful.Participants need to bring a laptop computer running Windows-XP, and MS-Excel (or compatible) installed.
When ?
The three-day course will be given on: 23, 24 and 25 March 2011.(Kyazma reserves the right to cancel the course upon insufficient participation.)
Cost
The fee of the three day course is 1050 euro (1075 euro when paying with a VISA Card or MasterCard). You will receive payment details by e-mail after your registration has been accepted. Hotel accommodation and meals are NOT included in the fee of the course (except 3 lunches and a joint dinner on 24 March). Single rooms at the hotel are approximately 75 EURO per night including breakfast. You will receive instructions on how to make your hotel reservation.QTL analysis course
On 28, 29 and the morning of 30 March 2011 Kyazma organizes a 2½-day course on QTL analysis, with computer practicals using MapQTL. The goal of the course is to teach the participant a basic understanding of QTL analysis, so that he/she will be able to perform QTL analysis for experimental populations using MapQTL.Description
The course will include:- what is a QTL,
- association between segregating markers and quantitative trait,
- nonparametric measurement of association,
- measuring association using analysis of variance (ANOVA),
- interval mapping,
- using cofactors,
- selecting cofactors,
- significance,
- computer practicals using MapQTL.
Requirements
The course is targeted to the biologist with a basic knowledge of genetics and statistics. Some experience with MS-Excel is useful.Participants need to bring a laptop computer running Windows-XP, and MS-Excel (or compatible) installed.
When ?
The two-and-half day course will be given on: 28, 29 and the morning of 30 March 2011.(Kyazma reserves the right to cancel the course upon insufficient participation.)
